Minocqua is a civil town in northwestern Oneida County, Wisconsin, nicknamed 'The Island City' for its downtown set on a peninsula and island in Lake Minocqua. It is the largest municipality in Oneida County after the city of Rhinelander, with a 2020 Census count of 5,062 and a Wisconsin Department of Administration January 1, 2025 estimate of 5,051; the town reports a permanent population near 5,000 that grows many times over during the summer tourism season. Governed by a town chairman and a four-member board of supervisors, its economy is built on four-season outdoor recreation and tourism (more than 60 lakes, the Bearskin State Trail) plus regional healthcare anchored by Marshfield Medical Center-Minocqua. Signature events include the decades-old Beef-A-Rama on the last Saturday of September and the Min-Aqua Bats summer water-ski shows.
